Hi our fans,

As you guys might remember, year ago we subbed an anime named Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. It was a fiction story, but today we saw how awful the result of the earthquake actually can be. Today, march 2011, there was a 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits, 30-Foot Tsunami Triggered, killing hundreds of people and wiping villages from the map.

From BBC: "The magnitude-8.9 offshore quake unleashed a 23-foot (seven-meter) tsunami and was followed by more than 50 aftershocks, many of them of more than magnitude 6.0." Aftershocks with magnitudes larger than 5.0 still continue to occur at the moment, and as of writing this topic, already reached the number of 107. (Source: USGS)

Dozens of cities and villages along a 1,300-mile (2,100-kilometer) stretch of coastline were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles (kilometers) from the epicenter. A large section of Kesennuma, a town of 70,000 people in Miyagi, burned furiously into the night with no apparent hope of the flames being extinguished, public broadcaster NHK said.

"The earthquake has caused major damage in broad areas in northern Japan," Prime Minister Naoto Kan said at a news conference.

Almost directly after the earthquake, 11 nuclear reactors shut down as a precaution, causing big cities like Tokyo to come to a grinding stop. 4.4M households were without power for almost a day. Public transport was suspended for inspection of the rails, and was resumed again on 6:30 AM local time. One of the nuclear reactors had cooling problems after the shutdown, and even emergency cooling systems failed, leaving the reactor in a dangerous position for many hours. After the tsunami, gas leaks caused several cities to catch fire. Death toll is around 1000 and counting, and there may be as much as 88,000 people missing (According to Kyodo).
